NOAA POES (HRPT)
  • The Alaska Region NOAA POES program is maintained 24 hours a day. The data is recieved via a downlink located at the Anchorage Forecast Office. The raw data is then processed, split into individual sectors, georefrenced, and then distributed through out the region. The entire process, from when the downlink starts recieving the raw data, till the images are available for download can range from 20 to 40 minutes, depending on the pass coverage and sector.
  • The schedule listed is produced by PRC staff each morning at 9am, and covers a 24 hour period. Not all sectors will be produced from every pass. The pass must go over the mid point of the sector (indicated by the red dot in the thumbnails) in order for that sector to be generated. The only exception is the AFM sector, which is a composite of the last three passes.
  • A 24 hour archive of each sector is available, along with a loop consisting of the last 10 images. The loops are not as useful as the GOES loops, due to the long time inbetween coverage, and the partial coverage of sectors. However the more northern sectors can be useful as the pass coverage and frequency increases.
